Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that medical tourism is one of the avenues being used to deplete our nation's foreign reserves. Osinbajo said this in a speech which was read on his behalf by the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, at the commencement of a two-day national health dialogue organised by the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, PTCIJ, the Project for Advocacy in Child and Family Health, PACFaH, and the Project Pink Blue which held at the Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja yesterday.
According to Osinbajo, medical tourism is costing Nigeria billions of dollars and the government is looking at ways to stop the trend.
“We want to stop that trend because it is draining our reserves,” he said.
Osinbajo's comment comes days after President Buhari was welcomed back from the UK where he been for over two months to undergo medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
