Exactly a week after suspected assassins attacked members of the St
Phillips Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra state killing 13 people and
leaving 22 others injured, another attack by some gunmen occurred at
the Assemblies of God Church on the Oguta road Onitsha, Anambra State
this morning, leaving one policeman and a civilian dead.
According to reports, the gunmen who rode on a motorcycle, were reportedly coming from an unknown location and then made a stop over in front of the church. On sighting some police officers who were patrolling the area, they opened fire killing one of the officers and made away with his rifle. The gunmen also shot dead a motorcycle operator in the area.
Confirming the attack, the state police commissioner, Garba Umar, said " My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”.
